Extraction (2020) is an American action thriller directed by Sam Hargrave, known for his work as a stunt coordinator on major productions like Avengers: Endgame. The film was produced by the Russo brothers—Joe and Anthony Russo—who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Ande Parks, adapting it from his 2014 graphic novel Ciudad. The production was a collaborative effort involving companies AGBO, Thematic Entertainment, India Take One Productions, and T.G.I.M. Films, with distribution by Netflix.

The feature film is a high-octane action thriller about Tyler Rake, a skilled Australian black ops mercenary, who is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of India's most notorious drug lord. The mission takes place in the dangerous underworld of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and becomes a race against time fraught with brutal firefights and high-stakes chases.

Tyler is thrust into an almost suicidal mission to extract the boy while facing overwhelming odds and ruthless enemies. The film stands out for its relentless and well-choreographed action sequences, including an impressive 15-minute continuous single-take scene featuring a car chase, building assault, and lorry chase.

While the story leans on familiar tropes and clichés of the genre, the intense pace and visceral action make it gripping and engaging. Tyler's character development is mostly explored through flashbacks and his interaction with the boy he is trying to save, giving some emotional depth to the relentless combat scenes.

Extraction is noted for its raw portrayal of mercenary life and the moral ambiguities of such a dangerous profession, making it a thrilling ride for fans of adrenaline-fueled action movies. The movie also has a sequel and further installments planned, continuing the story of Tyler Rake's dangerous extrications in a global underworld landscape.

With a budget reportedly around $65 million, Extraction achieved significant success, becoming Netflix's most-watched original film at its release, drawing over 99 million viewers in its first month. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, whose personal and professional struggles are interwoven with high-stakes action, delivered through the film's striking production values and international shoot locales. Extraction’s production reflects both technical innovation and a cinematic style that merges character-driven storytelling with relentless, immersive action scenes.
