The Volvo ES90 is an all-electric luxury sedan unveiled in March 2025, blending sedan elegance, fastback versatility, and SUV-like space on the new SPA2 platform with 800-volt architecture. Production starts late 2025 at plants in Chengdu, China, and South Carolina, USA, positioning it as Volvo's flagship EV sedan successor to the S90. Deliveries begin late 2025 or early 2026 globally.
Design and Dimensions
Measuring 5,000 mm long, 1,942 mm wide, and 1,549 mm tall with a 3,102 mm wheelbase, the ES90 achieves Volvo's lowest-ever drag coefficient of 0.25 for superior efficiency. Signature Thor's Hammer LED headlights front the exterior, paired with C-shaped rear LEDs and a practical hatchback tailgate. Inside, Scandinavian minimalism prevails with premium materials, six ambient lighting themes, a panoramic sunroof (electrochromic optional), and generous rear legroom (899 mm).
Powertrains and Performance
Three variants launch: Single Motor RWD (245-329 hp, 0-100 km/h in ~6.6 s), Twin Motor AWD (330-442 hp, ~5.3 s), and Twin Motor Performance (500-670 hp, ~4.0 s). Batteries range from 88-111 kWh, delivering up to 700 km WLTP (435 miles) on the top model. The 800V system enables 350 kW DC fast-charging, adding 300 km in 10 minutes.
Interior and Technology
A 14.5-inch Google-built-in touchscreen anchors the cabin, with a 9-inch driver display, four-zone climate control, PM2.5 air purifier, and Bose 14-speaker audio. Dual NVIDIA AGX Orin computers power the Superset tech stack for OTA updates, LiDAR-enhanced sensing, and features like park pilot assist and driver understanding system. Cargo spans 424-446 L (seats up) to 904-1,256 L (folded), plus a 22 L frunk.
Safety Features
Volvo's safety legacy shines with LiDAR for beyond-human vision, automated emergency braking (pedestrian/cyclist detection), lane-keeping, adaptive cruise with lane-centering, blind-spot monitoring, and rear collision mitigation. An in-car radar prevents hot-car incidents for children/pets, backed by core computing for real-time 360° awareness and continuous OTA improvements.
Pricing and Availability
Global pricing starts around $70,000-$82,000 USD, with South African details pending but three variants confirmed. Reservations open with deposits from $500, bundling luxury/tech packages; expect premium positioning against Tesla Model S or Mercedes EQS.
